Dr. Chiu has served previously as the Director of the Noninvasive Cardiovascular Laboratory and Chair of Cardiovascular Medicine and Surgery at St. Mary’s Medical Center. He joined Duluth Clinic in 1996 which together with the Benedictine Health System formed Essentia Health.
Dr. Chiu graduated Bachelor of Science in Biology with College Honors from the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington 1985. He completed his Doctorate in Medicine at the University of Washington School of Medicine in 1989. After intern year in Medicine-Pediatrics, he elected and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Minnesota Hospital and Clinics in 1992. After a transitional year in basic and clinical research in hypertension holding a joint appointment through the University of Minnesota and the Veteran’s Administration Medical Center in Minneapolis, he went on to complete cardiology fellowship at Cleveland Clinic in 1996.
Dr. Chiu has contributed in efforts to found the preventive cardiology and the enhanced external counter-pulsation programs. His focus and interests are in noninvasive cardiology including transesophageal and transthoracic echocardiography, nuclear cardiology and noninvasive testing.
