Dustin Nowotny, DO

Dr. Dustin Nowotny, DO is a General Surgeon who joined Essentia Health in August of 2022. Dr. Nowotny treats a wide variety of surgical diseases including vascular surgery, colorectal and small intestinal surgery, hernia surgery, breast surgery, endocrine surgery, and trauma.

Dr. Nowotny earned bachelor’s degrees in physics and mathematics at the University of South Dakota. He received his medical degree from Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine and went on to complete his residency in general surgery at the University of North Dakota. He continues to be involved in the program and volunteers as a Clinic Instructor of Surgery for future general surgeons.

Dr. Nowotny has a special interest in minimally invasive surgery and the use of robotics to advance surgical practice. He completed additional training to master the DaVinci robotic system and utilizes the technology during many of the operations he performs. These include Colorectal and small intestinal surgery, Stomach surgery and treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease, Hernia surgery for repair of abdominal hernias and hiatal hernias, and Solid organ surgery including gallbladder and adrenal.

Dr. Nowotny is an active member in many professional surgical societies and continues to implement new procedures and techniques to advance care at Essentia Health. He recently started a program in chest wall reconstruction and operative treatment of rib fractures. He also provides additional treatment options for hemorrhoidal disease with new minimally invasive techniques.
