What's an ENT Surgeon?
An ear, nose, and throat surgeon, also called an otolaryngologist or ENT for short, is a doctor with specialized training in the diagnosis and surgical treatment of conditions related to the ear, nose, sinuses, larynx, mouth, throat, head, and neck.
ENT Surgeries
Essentia's ENT surgeons perform the following procedures:
- Adenoidectomy – Removes the adenoid glands to make breathing easier or prevent ear infections
- Ear tube placement – Helps prevent ear infections
- Laryngectomy – Removes all or part of the larynx (voice box)
- Otoplasty – Reshapes the ears
- Rhinoplasty – Reshapes the nose to treat breathing or congestion problems
- Septoplasty – Treats a deviated or bent nasal septum
- Sinus surgery – Treats chronic sinus infections
- Tympanoplasty – Repairs a ruptured eardrum
- Tonsillectomy – Removal of the tonsils
- Tracheostomy – Creates a hole in the neck and airway to help breathing
Snoring & Sleep Apnea Surgery
Snoring and sleep apnea can happen if your airway isn’t wide enough. Surgery may help if you’re not able to use a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machine or the machine doesn’t help your symptoms. Our specialists have experience and training to perform procedures like uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP) and laser-assisted uvuloplasty (LAUP).
Cochlear Implants
If you have trouble hearing due to a damaged cochlea (inner ear), an implant may help. This is an electronic medical device that replaces the function of the cochlea. During surgery, the implant is placed behind your ear.
