What's Low Vision?
Low vision is a visual impairment that can’t be corrected with glasses, contact lenses, medication, or surgery.
Symptoms of Low Vision
Low vision makes it difficult to see well enough to do everyday tasks. You may have low vision if you experience:
- Blind spots
- Blurred, hazy, or cloudy vision
- Central vision loss
- Difficulty seeing in dim light
- Peripheral, or side, vision loss
Personalized Low-Vision Care Plan
At your first appointment, a certified ophthalmic medical technologist or occupational therapist will conduct an assessment. Your provider will work with you to develop a personalized care plan that may include:
- Teaching you new ways to do daily tasks
- Showing you to use low-vision aids and devices, like magnifiers or items with large text and numbers
- Helping you increase your mobility
- Suggesting ways to make your environment safer
- Providing education
