When to Come to the Hospital
Come when you think you are in labor or if you think or know your water has broken (ruptured membranes). If you're unsure, you can always call:
- Daytime hours during the week: Call your doctor's office first.
- Evening hours and weekends: Call Nurse Care Line at 218-786-3110 or toll free at 800-714-4646
Remember to have someone drive you to St. Mary's. DO NOT drive yourself while in labor.
Hospital Entrances
Main Lobby Entrance
Enter St. Mary’s Medical Center (Building B) on 2nd Street.
Skywalk Entrance from Green Ramp
This entrance is open 6:30 am - 8:30 pm daily. Weekend and holiday schedules may vary. This is a covered ramp.
Emergency Room Entrance
The emergency room entrance is located on at 401 E 1st Street. There is temporary parking available near the entrance. Use this entrance if:
- You are uncomfortable
- You are leaking fluid
- Your labor seems to be proceeding quickly.
- It is between the hours of 8:30 pm – 6:30 am
Admission
If you are comfortable and being dropped off, come in through the 2nd Street entrance (main lobby) of St. Mary’s Medical Center. You will be directed to the Birthplace.
If you park and use the connecting skywalks, you can find the Birthplace on the 8th floor using the Central Hillside elevators.
If you're not comfortable or arrive between 8:30 pm and 6:30 am, use the emergency room entrance. Emergency room staff will take you to the Birthplace while your support person parks the car.
When you arrive at the hospital you will go first to the Birthplace Triage area. There, it will be decided if you are ready to be admitted after observation.
Parking
Ramps
There are two ramps with public parking. Note that both ramps below have an automated gate with no attendants on duty, and only accept Debit/Credit. No cash is accepted.
- The Essentia Health (Green) ramp connects to the hospital via the skywalk or cross 2nd street and use the street entrance to St. Mary’s Medical Center. Essentia will validate parking in the Green Ramp for the patient and their support partner only.
- Public Parking (Sheraton) Ramp at 302 E. 1st Street. Please note, Essentia Health will not validate parking in this ramp.
Meters
Most of the meters near the hospital are 2-hour meters. They're in effect from 8 am - 5:30 pm, Monday through Saturday. There is no charge on Sundays and holidays.

Located on the 6th floor concourse.

Firebrick station: 11 am - 7:30 pm
- Offerings: Firebrick pizza, sandwiches
Entrée station: 11 am - 1:30 pm and 4:30 - 7:30 pm
- Offerings: Rotisserie & carving station
Flavor trends: 11 am - 1:30 pm and 4:30 pm - 12 am
- Offerings: Healthy stations, trending items and late-night services
Other offerings: Large salad bar, soup, variety grab & go meals, snacks, beverages, and coffee station.
