NICU Follow-Up Clinic
Babies born prematurely or with complications often need extra care even after they’ve gone home. If your baby spent time in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), Essentia offers follow-up clinics in Duluth, Minnesota, and Fargo, North Dakota.
Our first goal is to help you and your baby make a smooth transition from the NICU to home. Then, we provide ongoing support and care during your child’s first year or two to help them grow, learn, and live well.

What to Expect
At your first visit, you’ll meet with a pediatrician or neonatologist. Your provider will examine your baby, make recommendations, and answer any questions you may have. You may also see a dietitian, occupational therapist, physical therapist, or speech-language therapist.
We'll work with you to monitor your babies’ early growth and development. If your child could benefit from early intervention services or other care, we’ll make referrals to specialists or help you connect with community resources.
Coordinated Care
Caregivers in the NICU follow-up clinic are part of your child’s care team and do not replace your child’s primary care provider. We will work with your child’s pediatrician and specialists to provide comprehensive, coordinated care.
